New, unofficial, config keys

NOTE:
[Q]

This is extremely inaccurate as of rewrite (0.3.9+). Locking the thread and removing sticky until such time as it becomes relevant again.
[Q]

When I say unofficial... they're not showing up in awn-manager and there is no guarantee they won't be renamed, removed or change in behaviour.
[Q]

However heres a list of the new additions. If I'm missing any please just add a post.
[Q]

/apps/avant-window-navigator/bar/expand_bar
[Q]

Cause the bar to expand across the bottom of the screen. Applets/Launchers/Tasks will center within that.
[Q]

/apps/avant-window-navigator/app/icon_alpha
[Q]

Want some transparency for your icons... edit this.
[Q]

/apps/avant-window-navigator/app/icon_depth_on
[Q]

Enable/disable the icon depth on the 3d turns.
[Q]

/apps/avant-window-navigator/app/reflection_alpha_multiplier
[Q]

Control the strength of the reflections. 1.0 would be equal to the icon itself... 0.0 would be no visible reflections.
[Q]

/apps/avant-window-navigator/app/frame_rate
[Q]

Number of frames/second (in optimal circumstances). Defaults to 25... personally I like 35 at the moment.
[Q]

/app/show_shadows
[Q]

Shows shadows for the icons.
[Q]

/apps/avant-window-navigator/applets/shared/allow_generic_config_edit
[Q]

If you enable this then some applets that do not have a config dialog will acquire an applet pref items on right click (you may need to restart awn for some of the applets). At the moment choosing the menu item will only open up gconf-editor to the appropriate key... mrooney has expressed an interest in doing a more useful generic config dialog but a few items need to be taken care of first... In the meantime it is still useful.
[Q]

/apps/avant-window-navigator/applets/shared/dialog_focus_loss_behavior
[Q]

Mostly useful for those who use focus follows mouse. Not supported by all applets yet. For those that do, setting the key to false, will cause the dialogs to not close when they lose focus.
[Q]

/bar/reflection_offset
[Q]

The number of pixels the reflections are moved up.
[Q]

Enjoy,

Great, I assume you will update this if/when the keys update?
[Q]

And what is the reason for not going in awn-manager? Are we waiting for an overhaul/rewrite/refactor of it? Some new system for adding options?

The awn-manager situation has been discussed and it is felt that some analysis should be done before anything furthere is added. I also think it is fair to say that we don't want it to become overwhelmed with options... so what will _probably_ happen is that a certain set will be cherry picked for awn-manager and the rest will be left as advanced setting that can be accessed through your configuration editor of choice ( gconf-editor for most).

Yeah, basically, I am 100% opposed to turning Awn Manager into another CCSM. :)
[Q]

(Note: I will ignore any comments of the form "but CCSM is so much better", "there's a simpler version of CCSM out now", "you're a compiz-hating, mono-loving freak", etc. In fact, I'll probably delete comments that look like the last example :) )

But.....just kidding. What about doing something similar to Firefox? So we have AWN Manager basically as it is, or perhaps with a few less options, even simpler. Then we add an Advanced tab, which is roughly equivalent to Firefox's 'about:config':
[Q]

[Q]

With the first column being the gconf/awnconf/whatever path, and the rest is pretty self explanatory. This makes it simple to configure basic options (perhaps ever simpler than it is now), and then we can throw all the rest of the options in an easily editable grid, so they are all exposed (no need to know about threads like this, etc). What do you think?

Exaile has such an "advanced configuration" possibility as well (like firefox). It is very simple, even more when a some way of key description is given.
[Q]

I think that is at least better than to direct an unexperienced user to the Gconf editor labyrinth.

They're in the gconf configuration. You would need to start up gconf-editor to change them.
